Newcastle United’s left-back Lewis Hall is set to miss the remainder of the season due to a foot bone injury, as confirmed by the Premier League club on Wednesday.
The 20-year-old England international’s setback occurs at a crucial time for Newcastle, who are vying for a European qualification spot. They also have the opportunity to claim their first major trophy since 1955 when they take on reigning champions Liverpool in the League Cup final at Wembley on March 16.
Adding to their woes, Newcastle will also be without Anthony Gordon for the clash against Liverpool, the league leaders. The winger was handed a red card for violent conduct during their 2-1 home defeat against Brighton in the FA Cup fifth round on Sunday.
“After undergoing a scan and receiving guidance from a specialist, Lewis will proceed with surgery followed by a rehabilitation period with the club’s medical team,” Newcastle stated in an announcement.
“Wishing you all the very best for your surgery and recovery, Lewis.”
Currently sitting sixth in the Premier League table, Newcastle trails fourth-placed Manchester City by three points after 27 matches. Their next fixture is against 15th-placed West Ham United on Monday.
