The Newcastle Jets have secured the services of Japanese talent Kota Mizunuma for the Isuzu UTE A-League 2025-26 season.
The 35-year-old featured in 12 matches for the Jets last season after joining from renowned J1 League club Yokohama F. Marinos on a temporary arrangement.
Mizunuma, an international winger for Japan, quickly endeared himself to Jets supporters towards the conclusion of the 2024-25 season, netting two goals and providing four assists across his 12 appearances.
“I’m thrilled to be representing the Jets once more this season,” Mizunuma expressed following his re-signing for 2025-26.
“My time in Newcastle has been fantastic, and I’m already looking forward to what lies ahead.”
“I’ll put in my utmost effort for the team, and I hope our fans will come out to support us to ensure we have a remarkable season. Up the Jets!”
Mizunuma is the first player to re-sign with the club following the appointment of new head coach Mark Milligan in May. Players such as Dane Ingham, Ryan Scott, Matt Scarcella, Justin Vidic, Wellissol, Callum Timmins, Jacob Dowse, Charles M’Mombwa, and Zac Bowling have all left the club since the end of the 2024-25 season, where the Jets finished ninth on the Isuzu UTE A-League table.
Milligan highlighted Mizunuma’s leadership and experience as pivotal factors that made him an essential signing for his inaugural season as head coach.
“Having a player of Kota’s experience was crucial for both myself and the club,” Milligan stated.
“From my observation, it quickly became clear that Kota not only made a significant impact on the pitch but also won over the fans in no time.”
“Kota will play a vital role in what he offers as a player and, perhaps even more importantly, as an individual.”
“The natural leadership qualities he possesses will undoubtedly help guide and influence the younger players around him.”
