Kevin Durant netted 34 points, leading the Phoenix Suns to a stunning comeback from a 23-point disadvantage late in the third quarter to triumph over the Los Angeles Clippers 119-117 on Wednesday.
However, the post-match discussions predominantly revolved around a tense exchange between Durant and Suns’ coach Mike Budenholzer.
Footage captured the pair engaged in a heated argument during a timeout after Budenholzer seized Durant’s left arm, attempting to halt the 15-time All-Star from bypassing him for a conversation.
Durant swiftly removed his arm from Budenholzer’s grasp and proceeded towards the bench, only to turn back and continue their exchange.
“That’s typically what happens when you’re unaware of the dynamics in our relationship,” Durant remarked.

“When you see something on TV, grab a quote, and suddenly you’re spinning a narrative as if Bud and I don’t engage in this kind of thing regularly,” Durant continued. “We’re two competitive individuals striving for excellence, and at times my perspective clashes with Bud’s, and vice versa.”
“He respects my voice as a veteran player, allowing me to share my thoughts. If we didn’t genuinely care, these discussions wouldn’t occur, you know? Thankfully, our victory will overshadow that nonsense.”
“Some folks were eager to spread the word, even in Phoenix, suggesting that this was the cause of our recent struggles. But come on, that just illustrates that Bud and I are committed to making this work and winning basketball games.”

The Suns were trailing by 19 points heading into the fourth quarter, but a vibrant offensive display from Durant and reserve guard Collin Gillespie turned the tide. Phoenix dominated the final period with a 43-22 scoreline, reigniting their playoff aspirations.
Gillespie contributed 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting, including two successful three-pointers, providing the Suns with a vital boost in the latter half. Additionally, Nick Richards made an impact with 16 points from 8-of-10 shooting.
Despite the defeat, the Clippers had a standout performance from Ivica Zubac, who achieved a career-high of 35 points along with 10 rebounds, shooting 15 of 19 from the field. Both Kawhi Leonard and James Harden added 21 points each.
