Braith Anasta has addressed the public backlash targeting his client, Lachlan Ilias, the halfback for the Dragons, following the team’s loss in round two.
In an unexpected post-match media briefing, coach Shane Flanagan declined to back Ilias, deflecting when questioned about his performance against South Sydney.
“You’re astute enough to form your own opinion,” Flanagan stated.
Reports have surfaced suggesting that Flanagan reached out to Ilias, who has recently returned from a significant leg injury, in an effort to mend any misunderstandings.

Dismissing the recent spotlight on Ilias, Anasta expressed on Fox League’s NRL 360 that the 24-year-old was “devastated” about his performance even prior to Flanagan’s remarks.
“This should happen behind closed doors,” Anasta commented.
“I would have given Lachy a stern talk and explained how he could have managed the last 15 minutes better — but privately.
“Targeting a young half who is already battling with his self-confidence is counterproductive. They lost by a point, and while he may not have performed to expectations, many others also fell short.”
“Flanagan’s comments have placed undue pressure on a young player — that’s not going to assist him.”

Anasta further highlighted how a different approach was taken by Parramatta’s new coach, Jason Ryles, regarding Dylan Brown’s performance in the weekend’s defeat to the Tigers.
“When asked about Dylan Brown’s game, Ryles addressed it cleverly,” he noted.
“With a fresh $13 million contract in place, Ryles acknowledged the situation without throwing Dylan under the bus.”
As Ilias’s manager, Anasta has been alongside him throughout his career thus far, and he also represents Storm superstar Cameron Munster.
