Christian Eriksen is preparing to part ways with Manchester United as his contract nears its conclusion in three months. However, he has no intentions of returning to Denmark or pursuing a career in the United States.
With only three months remaining on his contract, United has yet to approach Eriksen regarding an extension, signalling that his time at the club may soon be over.
“I haven’t received any communication, and in the absence of that, I take it as a sign the partnership will end. That’s my interpretation of the situation. Everyone is aware that my contract is expiring, so I believe there’s only one outcome,” Eriksen shared with TV Sport.
“I’ve come to terms with looking for a new club. I’m unsure where that may be, but I find myself on the open market, which is a new experience for me. I was also in a similar situation after my cardiac arrest, although that was quite different,” Eriksen said during the national team camp in Helsingør.
The 33-year-old Eriksen has firmly ruled out returning to his homeland in what could be the twilight of his career.
“I still believe I have a few solid years left to offer abroad. In terms of football, I don’t feel ready to head back to Denmark and play in the Superliga,” stated Eriksen, who has also dismissed the idea of moving to Major League Soccer in the United States.
“The family is not keen on relocating that far,” he remarked.
“I haven’t encountered anything that particularly excites me, so I’ll just wait to see what opportunities arise that are suitable for both me and my family,” Eriksen added.
Given Eriksen’s limited playing time at United, he is not anticipated to have a prominent role in the upcoming Nations League matches against Portugal.
