Jude Bellingham of Real Madrid has urged his team to make history in the United States by clinching the inaugural expanded FIFA Club World Cup.
The midfielder faced criticism from England manager Thomas Tuchel on Wednesday for his ‘intimidating’ conduct during matches, but remains hopeful that his squad can carve out further glory for Los Blancos, a goal he emphasises is taken very seriously by the club.
As one of the most celebrated clubs in the sport’s history, the Spanish giants are poised to take another significant step forward this month.
Reflecting on the new tournament, Bellingham remarked: “Every trophy holds significance, and the other 31 teams earned their place based on their accomplishments in their respective regions, so it’s a considerable event in my view. It’s a chance to secure another title and to compete in a fresh competition, which we don’t take lightly. This is about history, and as I’ve mentioned before, there are not many things you can do at this club that haven’t already been achieved, so it’s nice to have a new opportunity.”

Considering their prominence in the sport, it is to be expected that Real Madrid will attract significant attention during the tournament. They are set to face Al Hilal, Pachuca, and RB Salzburg in the group stage, and Bellingham understands that, even with a different atmosphere compared to that at Santiago Bernabeu, the focus will be solely on the goal when matchday arrives.
He added: “I believe all our matches will be exceptional. We have supporters worldwide. Our pre-season in the USA sees us gaining even more fans each year, and it will be an incredible experience for us. We always trust in the support we receive, regardless of where we play.
“It’s fantastic to gain experience and enter the tournament with an open mind. There’s much we can learn and possibly incorporate into our playing style, taking note of things we admire in their teams. This is an experience that’s not frequently encountered, so I plan to make the most of it.”
“It’s genuinely thrilling. The atmosphere during pre-season tours is quite different, and the matches feel distinct; sometimes it’s as if you’re just going through the motions, but the dynamic is certainly unique.
“By the time we arrive, our purpose will be clear: to win. I’m sure we will consider the lengthy season we’ve had, allowing time to enjoy our relaxation while soaking in the culture, but ultimately, the priority is always football, and we’ll aim for victory.”
