Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham has urged his teammates to achieve new milestones in the United States by claiming the inaugural expanded FIFA Club World Cup.
The midfielder recently faced criticism from England manager Thomas Tuchel for his ‘intimidating’ conduct during matches, but he remains hopeful that his team can make history for Los Blancos, a feat he insists is being taken very seriously.
The Spanish powerhouse boasts a rich legacy in football, and this month presents a unique chance to elevate that legacy even further.
Commenting on the new tournament, Bellingham stated: “Every trophy carries significance, and the other 31 teams have earned their place through notable achievements in their respective regions. To me, it’s a substantial deal, providing us with an opportunity to secure another title in a fresh competition. This is not something we take lightly, as it’s a chance to make history, and as I’ve mentioned previously, there are not many achievements left for us at this club that haven’t been accomplished already, so it’s great to have a new opportunity.”

Given their prominence in the sport, it’s understandable that Real Madrid will attract one of the largest followings in the tournament. They are set to face Al Hilal, Pachuca, and RB Salzburg in the group stage, and the enthusiastic midfielder acknowledges that, while the atmosphere may differ from that of Santiago Bernabeu, the focus will undoubtedly be on achieving victory come matchday.
He added: “I believe all our matches will be fantastic. We have supporters around the world. Our pre-season in the USA attracted even more fans, and it’s always a wonderful experience for us. We are confident of the backing we’ll receive, regardless of where we are playing.
“It’s exciting to gain experience and approach the tournament with an open mind. There’s much we can learn, perhaps adopting elements from other teams’ playing styles. This isn’t an opportunity that comes around often, so I’ll be sure to make the most of it personally.”
“It’s incredibly thrilling. The atmosphere is distinct on a pre-season tour, and the matches feel different; there’s a sense of going through the motions at times, making it a unique dynamic.
“By the time we arrive, we will be there with the intent to win. I’m certain we will be aware of the fact that we’ve had a long season, and we’ll take advantage of our downtime to experience the culture and everything else. However, the primary focus, as always, will be on the football, and we hope to come out on top.
