Newcastle Jets’ head coach Rob Stanton has revealed the surprising news that he will depart from the Isuzu UTE A-League team at the end of the current season.
Speculation surrounding the 52-year-old’s future at McDonald Jones Stadium has been rife, alongside various reports considering the reasons behind Stanton’s forthcoming exit.
After Sunday’s 2-1 defeat at home against Wellington Phoenix, a candid Stanton shed light on the situation.
“It’s more about… I feel there’s a specific direction we should be pursuing and I believe the club has a different perspective on that,” Stanton shared with Paramount+.
“Even though I’ve signed a contract, if I don’t sense that we are heading towards the right path…”
He added: “Ultimately, I want what’s best for the club. I’m neither angry nor disappointed. My focus is on what benefits the fans and players.”
“Ultimately, perhaps some individuals got involved who shouldn’t have. Now, it’s crucial for the right people to step up to help fix the club. New owners have come on board with their responsibilities.”
“It’s going to require more individuals with strong leadership to set a clear direction and gain support from the fans.”
“I accept this and am ready to move forward. I don’t wish to make a fuss about it. As a coach, taking on a role like this means accepting the outcomes.”
“We need to focus on finishing the season as strongly as possible. I don’t want anyone to become divided within the club; we need to come together.”
