Juventus coach Igor Tudor has dismissed claims that his players are experiencing end-of-season fatigue, emphasising that his squad is motivated and prepared to compete as they gear up to take on Moroccan team Wydad Casablanca in the Club World Cup on Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field.
The Italian giants kicked off their campaign with a resounding 5-0 victory over Al Ain from the UAE, and a win against Wydad would see them advance to the next round. Such an outcome would pave the way for an eagerly awaited Group G clash with Manchester City on Thursday, which could decide who tops the group.
In comments made to the media on Saturday, Tudor asserted that there are no signs of fatigue among his players. “I do not observe any signs of tiredness within the team; on the contrary, there’s an abundance of enthusiasm,” he stated. “It’s wonderful to see them relishing their time together on the pitch. They approached the last match as if it were a final. Their confidence has grown significantly, and they’re thoroughly enjoying what we’re crafting as a team, which is fantastic to witness.”
Tudor, who took the helm in March after Thiago Motta’s departure, has transformed the fortunes of the Turin outfit. Juventus was languishing outside the Serie A top four and had been ousted from all cup competitions upon his arrival. However, with his leadership, the team has lost only one more league match, ultimately finishing fourth to secure a spot in the Champions League.
Reflecting on his time in charge so far, Tudor expressed his pride in his players’ professionalism and dedication. “I have superb professionals who’ve been committed from the start until now,” he remarked. “We’ve put in a tremendous amount of work behind the scenes, while also enhancing our understanding of the game and my expectations as a coach.”
Despite the promising start in the Club World Cup, Tudor has urged his players to maintain their focus. “Juventus should aspire for greatness, but we must remain humble and keep grinding with our heads down,” he explained. “I continuously remind the players to concentrate on training and take every match as it comes. They might find it tedious hearing me say it, but that’s the mentality we require.“
The matchup against Wydad Casablanca will serve as a significant benchmark for Juventus’s progress under Tudor, as the Italian side seeks to sustain their momentum heading into the tournament’s knockout stages.
