On Wednesday, Barcelona will face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League quarter-finals, but manager Hansi Flick is concentrating solely on maintaining their lead at the top of LaLiga ahead of Saturday’s clash with a resurgent Real Betis.
Barcelona currently leads LaLiga with 66 points, sitting three points clear of their nearest rivals, Real Madrid, with nine matches to go. Atletico Madrid trails in third place with 57 points.
Though Barcelona remains unbeaten across all competitions in 2025, Betis is also enjoying a good run, having won their last six LaLiga fixtures.
“Our focus is always on the next match; we’re not looking ahead to Dortmund at all. Our priority is Betis and ensuring we have fresh legs for tomorrow,” Flick told reporters on Friday.
Having already claimed the Spanish Super Cup in January, Barcelona is aiming for a quadruple this season. They will host German side Dortmund in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals and have also secured a spot in the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid.
“I sense that the squad has begun to believe in themselves. My role is to remind them that we need to perform and demonstrate our worth on the pitch. We are fighting for everything, we have faith in ourselves, and we aim to win every competition,” Flick stated.
“It’s a lengthy journey; there are still nine games left in LaLiga. These are matches that can swing either way. Other teams also have the capability to contend for the title, not just Madrid and Barcelona.”
Flick mentioned that young Spanish midfielder Gavi, 20, will be available for selection against Betis.
“It’s going to be a tough match, as we saw in the Copa del Rey. The scoreline didn’t reflect how the game unfolded. We have to perform at our best against them. We need to manage our players’ fitness well, and we’ll see what the day brings,” Flick added.
