Tottenham Hotspur have faced a persistent issue this season, with leaks of sensitive information to the media emerging from within the club, according to manager Ange Postecoglou’s comments on Friday.
In their recent 1-1 draw at home against Eintracht Frankfurt during the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final on Thursday, Postecoglou raised concerns after the team news was prematurely disclosed.
“It’s clear we have a leak inside the club. Someone is continually passing information on, and this has been the case all year,” Postecoglou told the press ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
“I’m not sure why this is happening. It certainly isn’t beneficial for us. We’ve been able to pinpoint the source. I have a good idea of where it’s coming from. We will address it.
“It definitely complicates our preparations on match days. The information released is sometimes only partially true, if at all. I would expect everyone within our circle to be collaborating with us, not undermining us.”
With a quick turnaround before Sunday’s fixtures and a crucial second leg looming in Germany next week, Postecoglou is expected to make adjustments to his team against Wolves.
“It’s a balancing act, considering both Thursday’s and Sunday’s matches,” he explained.
“Last night’s match took a significant physical toll on the players, and travelling to face Wolves is also a tough encounter. Our focus will be on managing the minutes for some players while also giving others game time.
“We require a strong performance on Sunday, so having some fresh legs will be advantageous. While it’s not just about resting or managing players, we need to ensure everyone is ready for the challenges ahead.”
The club has also announced that Vinai Venkatesham will join the Spurs board as CEO this summer. A former CEO of Arsenal, Venkatesham was also involved in the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and serves as a non-executive director for the British Olympic Association.
Currently, Spurs are positioned 14th in the league standings with 37 points, while Wolves sit in 17th place, maintaining a 12-point gap above the relegation zone.
