With the FIFA Club World Cup looming just over a week away, DAZN engaged with numerous managers who will guide their teams into this revamped tournament, each aiming for the prestigious title of the world’s top club.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is keen to kick off the tournament, eager for not only a chance to put behind a somewhat lacklustre season but also for the vibrant atmosphere that the Club World Cup is set to provide.
“We’ll see how the season wraps up. It’ll depend on how we all arrive at the tournament together, and then, we’ll take it from there. Generally, when I embark on a competition like the Premier League, I don’t start with the mindset of, ‘Oh, we’re going to win, we have to win.’
“So it’s a matter of taking it step by step; however we get there, we’ll aim to play better than we did this season,” Guardiola shared with DAZN.
He elaborated: “We’ve built a supportive fanbase over the last decade, which we’re immensely proud of because our supporters have truly enjoyed watching us play. During pre-seasons in regions like Asia and sometimes in America, it’s heartening to see countless blue shirts in the crowd and fans asking for autographs and photos with our players. That fills us with pride.”
“Football is dynamic today, featuring various managers with different cultures and styles. Competing against teams from Oceania, Asia, or South America brings about new challenges; that’s what makes football so intriguing, isn’t it?”
“Styles vary, with distinct visions and diverse player backgrounds and cultures.”

“The influence of my past managers has broadened my perspective, particularly my mentor, Johann Cruyff, who played a pivotal role in shaping my approach and vision for the game. I honestly believe that without Johann Cruyff’s influence during my playing career, it would have been far more challenging to transition into management.”
“When people claim that one manager has developed a player better than another, that’s simply not accurate. The overall team dynamics and the environment you create as a unit impact the quality of each player’s development.
“Only a few individuals can truly change things on their own. Most rely on their teammates; alone, they are nothing.”
Manchester City will kick off their Club World Cup journey against Wydad on June 18th.
Guardiola shared these insights ahead of the forthcoming FIFA Club World Cup. You can watch all 63 matches live on DAZN for free.
