Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen has disclosed his desire to exit the Premier League as he readies himself for a departure from the club.
The Denmark international is set to become a free agent, with his contract at United concluding this month.
Since joining the Red Devils in 2022, Eriksen has made 107 appearances and found the back of the net eight times.
The 33-year-old bid farewell to Old Trafford on the final day of the season, marking an emotional goodbye after spending three seasons with the team.
In a recent interview with Danish broadcaster TV 2 Sport, Eriksen expressed his hopes of moving on from the Premier League and exploring opportunities beyond its confines, having spent a significant portion of his career at clubs like Brentford, Tottenham, and United.
“At the moment, there’s nothing concrete. There is interest from various clubs, but I’m not close to signing anything yet.
“My focus for now is on international matches and then enjoying a good summer break.
“Following that, we’ll see how long the break extends. I would prefer to move away from the Premier League.
“I feel like I’ve had my time in the Premier League, so I’m looking beyond the borders of England.
“It’s been a fantastic place for me and my family, and we’ve called it home for many years.
“When I transferred from Tottenham to Inter, returning to England wasn’t part of the plan. However, I’ve spent another three and a half years back there, so you can never say never, but right now my priority is to move on.”
As Eriksen approaches the end of his contract this month, it’s evident that while interest from various teams exists, his immediate focus is on assisting the Denmark national team in their upcoming matches against Northern Ireland and Lithuania.
After that, he will ponder his next steps, which he envisions will lead him away from the Premier League as he enters the final chapter of his career.
