Collingwood has successfully secured the services of star defender Brayden Maynard, ensuring he will don the black and white jersey for the long haul.
Despite enticing offers reportedly worth $1 million per season from rival clubs, Maynard has opted to remain with the Magpies, signing a four-year contract.
This outcome was anticipated, although Maynard’s extended period of being unsigned attracted increasing interest from other teams.
The 28-year-old was on North Melbourne’s radar, which was contemplating an offer of a five to six-year deal worth close to $1 million annually.
Other clubs like Sydney and Port Adelaide also expressed interest in the defender, but both felt that securing Maynard from his cherished Magpies would be a tough task.
“I’m extremely proud and thrilled to represent the black and white for another four years,” Maynard stated in an announcement.

“To the Magpie Army – it’s an honour to represent you each week. Wherever we compete, your unwavering support and passion lifts us, and I am eager to continue running out in front of you for years ahead.
“Go the Magpies!”
Having played 218 games since being drafted in 2014, Maynard has become a vital player for Collingwood.
The 2022 All-Australian has stepped up admirably as a stand-in captain in the absence of Darcy Moore, who is currently recovering from a shoulder injury sustained in May.
Collingwood’s list manager Justin Leppitsch described Maynard as the “ultimate club-person.”
“Brayden is universally loved at our club, particularly among his teammates. He is a heart-and-soul player who leads by example in all facets,” Leppitsch commented.
“We are thrilled to have ‘Bruz’ re-sign. He embodies a team-first mentality both on and off the field.
“We look forward to seeing Brayden in black and white for the next four years and beyond.”
