Melbourne City has secured a contract extension with midfielder Alessandro Lopane, a key player for the reigning Isuzu UTE A-League champions.
Lopane’s new three-year agreement will see him remain with the club until at least the conclusion of the 2027-28 season.
The 21-year-old midfielder, often referred to as “clutch”, has made 42 appearances for Melbourne City since his arrival from Western Sydney Wanderers in 2023. He played a crucial role in the club’s Grand Final victory, having made an impressive comeback from a serious knee injury sustained in March.

Lopane expressed his gratitude, stating, “Melbourne City has been a tremendous support to me both on and off the pitch, especially during my rehabilitation earlier this season.”
“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time in Melbourne and I’m thrilled to extend my stay at City as we aim for more silverware in the upcoming seasons.”
Having undergone pre-season surgery for a significant injury that nearly ended his career, Lopane made a remarkable recovery, leading to a sequence of eight consecutive starts to finish the regular season. Among these was a standout return match where he scored the decisive goal against Sydney FC before contributing as a substitute in City’s Grand Final victory over Melbourne Victory.

“Despite facing an unfortunate setback in pre-season, his positivity and commitment were exemplary, enabling him to return in fantastic shape and make a significant impact towards the end of the season.”
