Melbourne City have officially re-signed veteran defender Samuel Souprayen to a one-season deal, as confirmed by the club.
The experienced French centre-back has clocked up 51 appearances for City during his initial two seasons at the club.
Souprayen played a pivotal role in head coach Aurelio Vidmar’s starting lineup for the 2024-25 season. However, a calf injury sustained in May hindered his ability to contribute to City’s campaign for the Isuzu UTE A-League Championship title.

Following the announcement of his renewed one-season contract, Souprayen expressed that the disappointment of not being part of the Championship chase will drive his desire to secure more silverware next season.
“From the moment I arrived, Melbourne City has felt like home, and I’m thrilled to return for another season,” Souprayen stated.
“It was disheartening not to be on the field with my teammates during the Grand Final, but I take immense pride in what we accomplished this season. I will do everything in my power to help us reach even greater heights next year.”
City’s director of football, Michael Petrillo, remarked: “Samuel has been a steadfast and crucial member of our defence over the last two seasons, and we’re delighted to have him back with us for another year.”
“With expectations for more young talents to feature in our first team next season, the experience and leadership of players like Samuel will be essential as we aim to build on this year’s achievements.”
