American forward Catherine Zimmerman is making her return to the United States after spending two seasons with Western United, as confirmed by the Ninja A-League club.
A two-time A-Leagues champion with Melbourne Victory, Zimmerman netted 21 goals during her 61 appearances in Australia—three seasons with Victory and two with Western. Following her accolade as Western’s Player of the Season for 2024-25, she has decided to leave Australia to pursue new opportunities back in the States.

Zimmerman expressed her gratitude to the club in a heartfelt farewell message.
“Looking back on my two seasons at Western, I feel a deep sense of pride for the team and immense appreciation for everyone’s dedication every single day,” Zimmerman remarked.
“Though there have been ups and downs throughout my time here, I am so grateful to have played for this club. The memories I’ve created with my teammates, who have become some of my closest friends, mean the world to me.

Zimmerman marks the second confirmed departure from Western this off-season, following Matildas goalkeeper Chloe Lincoln’s move to Brisbane Roar.
Western has secured the re-signing of Julia Sardo, Claudia Mihocic, and Kiara De Domizio as head coach Kat Smith continues to build the squad for the upcoming Ninja A-League 2025-26 season.
Western United’s general manager of football, Mal Impiombato, described it as “bittersweet” to bid farewell to Zimmerman after her impactful two seasons in the Green and Black.
“Zim has been an exceptional contributor to the competition for several years, and it’s a bittersweet moment to see her go,” Impiombato stated.
