Carlos Alcaraz made an astonishing comeback from two sets down, saving three match points to defeat Jannik Sinner 4-6, 6-7(4), 6-4, 7-6(3), 7-6(10-2) on Monday morning, thereby securing his second consecutive Roland-Garros title.
This victory marked Alcaraz’s fifth grand slam triumph in as many finals and is heralded as one of the most remarkable comebacks in the clay-court tournament’s history.
For Sinner, it was a disappointing first loss in a grand slam final.

Additionally, this match was recorded as the longest French Open final ever, clocking in at a staggering 5 hours and 29 minutes within the Open Era.
After 3 hours and 43 minutes of play, Sinner had his first match point. Yet, with the match approaching five hours, Alcaraz found himself serving for the title at 5-4.
But the drama was far from finished.
Sinner made a stunning return from yet another brilliant drop shot by Alcaraz.

At the absolute limit of his reach, Sinner deftly guided the ball over the net, where it came to rest as gently as an autumn leaf, beyond Alcaraz’s grasp, bringing the score to 15-40.
With Sinner subsequently clinching the game to level at 5-5, he basked in the applause, coming within two points of victory in the 12th game. Alcaraz, however, was serving at 15-30, and the score was at deuce.
But Alcaraz responded with an extraordinary cross-court backhand, levelling the score to 6-6 and prompting a tie-breaker that sent the crowd into a frenzy when he landed a cross-court winner to go up 4-0.

In the end, Sinner couldn’t find a response, and Alcaraz sealed his victory with a brilliant forehand pass down the line before collapsing onto his back in celebration.
In a post-match interview with Stan Sport, Alcaraz was asked about the secrets behind his incredible resurgence.
“To be honest, I’m not quite sure,” he admitted.
“I can’t articulate exactly how I managed it because I truly don’t know.
“What I can say is that I just kept believing in myself, I poured my heart and every ounce of energy I had into it, fighting until the very last point.
“I noticed Jannik was struggling physically at certain moments, and I aimed to exploit that… and it worked.”
