Canterbury forward Sitili Tupouniua is set to face a suspension of up to seven weeks following a disastrous outing in Brisbane.
Tupouniua has been charged with two separate offences during Thursday’s match against the Broncos at Suncorp Stadium.
He could be looking at a ban of three to four games for a shoulder charge on Brendan Piakura, and in a different incident, he kneed Piakura in the head, which may result in an additional two to three weeks’ suspension.
Broncos captain Adam Reynolds was heard remarking, “That’s safety mate, that’s the worst I’ve seen… that’s a send off,” although the Bunker had a different perspective.
Nine commentators Cameron Smith and Brad Fittler expressed their disappointment over the raised knee.
“You simply can’t allow that,” Fittler pointed out.
Additionally, Canterbury teammates Josh Curran and Matt Burton are also facing potential suspensions.
Curran may be sidelined for three to four weeks due to a grade two shoulder charge, while Burton could face a two to three-game suspension for dangerous contact.
