Brumbies front-rower Blake Schoupp faces an extended period of recovery following an Achilles injury sustained during a scrum in his team’s victory over the Reds.
In the 62nd minute, the Brumbies were awarded a penalty for a scrum infringement, but Schoupp immediately collapsed onto the ground.
“This looks very concerning … it’s unfortunate news for Blake Schoupp,” remarked Tim Horan on Stan Sport.

Medical staff swiftly called for a stretcher to attend to Schoupp.
A replay indicated that the prop’s leg went into an awkward position as he lay on the ground following the scrum collapse. Achilles injuries typically arise when a player is pushing off.
Schoupp was subsequently transported off the field via medicab, acknowledging the crowd with a raised green whistle.

After the match, Brumbies head coach Stephen Larkham confirmed that the 27-year-old had ruptured his Achilles and will require surgery.
“It’s truly disappointing news for Blake,” he said.
“He’s been in fantastic form this season and was in high spirits, but he took on a bit of extra load when the scrum went backwards and felt a sudden strain.
“At the moment, he’s not in pain, but it’s clear he faces a lengthy recovery ahead.”
Despite the somber news regarding Schoupp, the Brumbies had much to celebrate following the final whistle.
The Reds initially took the lead when Hunter Paisami scored a remarkable chip-and-chase try, extending their advantage to 14-0 thanks to Richie Asiata’s effort in the 20th minute.
However, the Brumbies struck back just before halftime, levelling the score at 14-14 with tries from Rob Valentini and Allan Alaalatoa. In a dramatic twist, the TMO determined that Brumbies forward Tuaina Taii Tualima had grounded the ball just before the break.
After the interval, Asiata scored again to narrow the gap, but the Brumbies responded with two tries from Billy Pollard and a penalty goal from Ryan Lonergan to establish a 34-19 cushion.
The Reds’ late effort saw Dre Pakeho cross the line in the 79th minute.
The scoring frenzy continued as Corey Toole found the try line after the final whistle, sealing a 39-26 win for the Brumbies.
“That’s a powerful statement from this Brumbies side,” Horan added.
