The Broncos are set to begin their premiership season without key centre Kotoni Staggs, who is expected to be sidelined for approximately four to six weeks following a serious quadriceps injury sustained during the club’s last pre-season match.
On a brighter note, superstar front-rower Payne Haas is on course to feature in the opening round against the Roosters, despite concerns that he may have re-aggravated an existing ankle injury when he left the field early.
“Kotoni has sustained a quad injury and underwent a scan yesterday — he’ll be working closely with our rehab team for the next month or so,” Broncos head of performance Dave Ballard stated in a press release on Tuesday.
“We have confidence in his commitment to getting back onto the field and he has already commenced his rehabilitation programme today.”

In another blow for the squad, fringe player Jock Madden is ruled out for round one due to a low-grade hamstring strain.

Additionally, fellow fringe first-grader Jack Gosiewski will also miss the opening round after being subjected to the league’s concussion protocols.
The Broncos are set to clash with the Roosters at Allianz Stadium next Thursday evening.
