Bologna’s manager, Vincenzo Italiano, expressed that his team clinched the Coppa Italia trophy by learning from their recent loss to AC Milan and putting on a performance deserving of the occasion.
On Wednesday, Bologna triumphed over Milan with a score of 1-0 at Stadio Olimpico, marking their first Coppa Italia victory in 51 years and their third overall.
This achievement followed a 3-1 loss to Milan in Serie A just a few days earlier.
“After experiencing some setbacks, I truly believe we earned this win, especially since we delivered an exceptional performance tonight. It was remarkable, and we knew how Milan would respond in the second half, so we were prepared,” Italiano shared with Sport Mediaset.
The 47-year-old, originally from Germany, finally celebrated his first trophy as a manager, having previously taken Fiorentina to both the UEFA Conference League final and the Coppa Italia final without winning.
“Those were significant disappointments. Honestly, I didn’t expect to bounce back so quickly and secure a win, but here we are. I dedicate this victory to my extraordinary players,” Italiano remarked.
“We faced some early challenges, but we’ve been getting stronger, both individually and as a team. Now, please, let me go and celebrate, because this is just incredible,” he continued.
Dan Ndoye, who scored the winning goal for Bologna, commended his teammates for their defensive efforts.
“This is an unbelievable moment, especially seeing all our fans here in the stadium. It was a challenging match, but we played for the city and for our supporters; we are overjoyed,” the Swiss international stated.
“We scored at the perfect moment, then defended like a true team; we showed great resilience.”
