Ben Simmons made a compelling debut with the Los Angeles Clippers, leading his new team to a thrilling 120-116 overtime win against the Utah Jazz in Salt Lake City on Friday (AEDT).
The Australian basketball star contributed 12 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and three steals in his first NBA appearance for the Clippers after being released by the Brooklyn Nets.
During overtime, the Clippers maintained a lead throughout Simmons’ first game, only pulling away decisively when Norman Powell scored two quick baskets to stretch their advantage to 119-114 with just 59 seconds on the clock.

Powell was exceptional, finishing with a season-high 41 points, while James Harden contributed 32 points.
Harden also recorded 10 rebounds, seven assists, and three steals, helping the Clippers recover from a 20-point deficit and secure victory over Utah for the second time in three meetings.
When asked how Simmons and fellow newcomer Bogdan Bogdanovic will bolster the Clippers, Harden said, “They bring dimensions we previously lacked – Ben’s speed in transition, finishing, and playmaking, and ‘Bogey’ with his shooting prowess.”
“It’s just one game, of course, and with Kawhi (Leonard) resting today, once we have our full squad and find our rhythm, we can achieve great things.”
Simmons logged 27 minutes off the bench, shooting four from five from the field and successfully making all four of his free throw attempts.
Kyle Filipowski led the Jazz with a career-best 20 points alongside 10 rebounds, while Lauri Markkanen also scored 20 points and John Collins added 17.
The Jazz knocked down 13 three-pointers, shooting at an impressive 56.5% from beyond the arc before halftime, allowing them to establish a 50-30 lead just five minutes into the second quarter.
Los Angeles fought back before the break, scoring on eight consecutive possessions, including six straight baskets.
The Clippers finally took the lead in the fourth quarter, going up 103-100 after Powell tipped in a layup followed by a step-back three from Harden, capping an 11-1 scoring run.
Jazz rookie Isaiah Collier sent the game into overtime by making two free throws with 45 seconds remaining in regulation.
