Aston Villa secured their seventh win in eight Premier League matches, edging Bournemouth 1-0 at the Vitality Stadium, which keeps them firmly in contention for the UEFA Champions League spots.
The opening half was marked by a cautious approach from both teams, with Jacob Ramsey missing a potentially better chance when his shot sailed wide, while Evanilson’s header from Alex Scott’s cross failed to test Emiliano Martinez.
However, Villa began to assert their dominance as Marco Asensio struck the post from the edge of the area. Not long after, Kepa Arrizabalaga made two outstanding saves to keep headers from Boubacar Kamara and Matty Cash at bay.
The breakthrough came in first-half stoppage time when Ollie Watkins expertly redirected Morgan Rogers’ cross, earning him the title of Villa’s all-time leading Premier League scorer.
Villa almost extended their lead early in the second half when Kamara’s left-footed attempt narrowly missed the target. Their task grew more challenging after Ramsey received a red card for a second yellow, tripping David Brooks.
Bournemouth found renewed hope following the dismissal, as Antoine Semenyo’s shot went just wide, and late in the match, Evanilson’s powerful effort was parried away by Martinez.
In a dramatic conclusion, Semenyo appeared set to equalise in the dying moments, but Matty Cash was on hand to make a superb clearance off the line, sealing the victory for Villa.
