Laurie Daley is confident that Terrell May will represent the NSW Blues in the future, following a productive conversation with the Wests Tigers standout.
The absence of May from the squad was a hot topic leading into the first match, particularly after his comments in a live stream about missing out on the State of Origin selection.
Although coach Daley clarified that these comments did not influence the decision, it sparked discussions about May’s character and outlook within the sport.
The front-rower was again omitted from the Blues’ squad for game two, with selectors favouring Stefano Utoikamanu on the bench, while Keaon Koloamatangi and Lindsay Smith were named in the extended 20-man squad.

However, when Daley was asked about May’s desire to don the state jersey and their recent meeting, he expressed nothing but optimism.
“It was a pleasure to sit down and chat with Terrell,” he remarked.
“I hadn’t previously met him, but I found him to be a really good bloke. We shared a cuppa; I won’t divulge the specifics of our conversation, but he was absolutely on point.
“It was beneficial to clear the air, and there are no hard feelings from my side or his. He’s a lad who is truly passionate about representing NSW and will undoubtedly receive his chance with the Blues in due course.
“If he continues to work hard for the Tigers, I am positive that at some point he will be part of this team. He must keep up his good form, and the opportunity will come.”
May has been a standout for the joint venture since transferring from the Sydney Roosters, ranking highly on the Dally M leaderboard before the voting went behind closed doors.
Another player missing from the Blues line-up this time is Manly’s hard-hitting Haumole Olakau’atu, who stepped back from camp to be present for the birth of his child.

Daley mentioned that the decision regarding Olakau’atu was taken out of his hands.
“We felt it would be unfair for him to focus on a State of Origin game while worrying about the upcoming birth of his child,” he explained.
“We essentially made the call for him, suggesting it was better for him to be with his family. Ultimately, family takes precedence over a game of footy.
“He wants us to succeed, and he will certainly return to the mix because he’s such a fantastic player.”
NSW is aiming to secure the series with a victory next Wednesday at Optus Stadium, leading 2-0.
