Fans of the Raiders expressed their discontent by booing referee Wyatt Raymond, while coach Ricky Stuart showed visible frustration on the sidelines after the Broncos avoided a penalty for an elbow to the throat.
In a match held in the nation’s capital on Saturday night, Brisbane backrower Jordan Riki drove the ball forward and lifted his left arm for protection.
His forearm and elbow struck the throat of Canberra’s Hudson Young, causing Young to recoil and drop to his knees.
Gripping his throat, Young required attention from a trainer as the match was brought to a halt.
“That’s a disturbing incident,” remarked Fox League commentator Dan Ginnane.

“That elbow was quite dangerous,” Ginnane added.
“Young was clearly unhappy and wanted a penalty for that.”
Referee Raymond chose not to award a penalty to Riki, allowing the Broncos to maintain possession, which enraged the home crowd.
