The CommBank Matildas have appointed Championship-winning Ninja A-League head coach Emily Husband as an assistant to new head coach Joe Montemurro.
Husband joins Montemurro’s coaching team at a transformative time for Australian football, following her successful tenure with Central Coast Mariners that saw her lead the club to their first Championship title in the 2024-25 season.
The English coach made history as the fourth woman to win a Ninja A-League Championship, orchestrating the Mariners’ stunning victory over former title holders Melbourne City and Melbourne Victory on their way to Grand Final success in her second year at the Gosford club.

“I am honoured to take on the role of assistant coach for the CommBank Matildas,” said Husband. “Being entrusted with the opportunity to contribute, even in a small capacity, to the Matildas’ future is an absolute privilege.”
“They hold a significant place in Australian sport and culture, and I’m genuinely excited to help advance the team.”
“Joe is someone I have always respected immensely, not only for his tactical acumen but for his leadership style.”
“Having had the chance to collaborate previously, I’m genuinely delighted to build on that foundation as we aim to guide the Matildas to new heights.”
As part of Football Australia’s ‘Team of Coaches’ initiative, Husband recently joined the Matildas during the May/June FIFA women’s international window, where she worked closely with the technical team during the Argentina series.
Montemurro remarked: “Emily is a sharp, contemporary coach who has already showcased her abilities at the domestic level.”
“Her remarkable work with the Central Coast Mariners exemplifies the strengths she will bring to the CommBank Matildas.”
“Emily possesses a profound understanding of the game, a talent for connecting with players, and a fresh perspective that will be invaluable to our team. I’m eager to work closely with her once again.”

Gary Moretti, Head of National Teams, expressed: “We are excited to welcome Emily Husband to the coaching staff of the CommBank Matildas.”
“Her outstanding success with the Central Coast Mariners this season builds on the strong foundation she established in 2024.”
“Emily is among the most promising coaches in Australian football, and we take pride in seeing her advance into the national team environment.”
