Auckland FC have announced the return of Max Mata to his parent club, Shrewsbury Town, following the conclusion of his loan agreement with the Black Knights.
Hailing from Auckland, Mata joined the newly formed Isuzu UTE A-League team for its inaugural season, participating in 19 matches during the title-winning campaign.
During his 19 appearances under the guidance of head coach Steve Corica, Mata scored twice and provided three assists. Unfortunately, a hamstring injury sidelined him during Auckland’s Finals Series attempt, as the Black Knights were eliminated in a two-legged Semi-Final against Melbourne Victory with Mata unable to play.

“It’s been an amazing year in Auckland, one that I will always cherish,” stated Mata.
“Being from Auckland adds an extra layer of joy to our journey. Lifting the Plate in front of our fans after winning silverware was truly special.
“The backing I’ve received over the past year has meant a lot to me. From the Port, to the families, the kids, the staff, and my teammates – I will truly miss it all. Thank you for the wonderful moments and memories.”

Auckland’s head coach, Corica, expressed his appreciation for Mata’s contributions to their Premiership success in the 2024-25 season and conveyed his best wishes as Mata returns to Shrewsbury Town in England’s League Two.
“He’s a fantastic character and a valuable player, and he will certainly be missed,” Corica remarked.
“He worked well in conjunction with May, creating opportunities and space for his teammates. Shrewsbury is a reputable club known for nurturing talent, and I’m confident they will take good care of him. We wish him all the best in the future, and he’ll always be welcome back at our club.”
