Any moment a player dashes 80 metres to score a try is a noteworthy occasion.
However, when it’s executed during a player’s debut in the NRL or NRLW, it becomes even more remarkable.
And if that try comes from their very first touch of the ball on debut, it’s as though it’s been lifted straight from a video game.
Such was the extraordinary feat achieved by Dragons winger Indie Bostock in Canberra on Saturday afternoon.
In the fourth minute of the opening round of the NRLW clash between St George Illawarra and Canberra, the 18-year-old accessed the ball within her own 20-metre zone, evaded a tackle, burst through a gap, fended off the fullback with her left hand, and sprinted away to score.
This remarkable try was the first of six scored by the Dragons, who commenced their season with a dominant 36-14 victory over the Raiders on a brisk winter afternoon in Canberra.

“What a magnificent individual try,” remarked Phil Gould on the Nine broadcast.
“What an athlete!”
Ruan Sims added, “She absolutely nailed that. She’ll be celebrating that try for a long time!”
Bostock, who is the younger sister of Dolphins speedster Jack Bostock, notched two tries on her debut in the NRLW.
Her remarkable performance was complemented by a memorable moment from St George Illawarra captain Zali Hopkins, who scored from dummy-half and paid tribute to former NRL cult figure Mark “Piggy” Riddell with a cheeky celebration.
Back in 2002, “Piggy” famously scored a try against the Dragons and made a grand gesture by jumping the fence to applaud his own efforts.
In tribute, Hopkins, who shares the dummy-half position with Riddell, climbed onto the fence and applauded her own efforts.
Coincidentally, “Piggy” was present at GIO Stadium to witness the moment, having taken on an assistant coaching role with the Dragons’ NRLW side this season.
“A nod to ‘Piggy’,” Millie Elliott quipped on Nine.
With just 12 minutes remaining, the Dragons only held a slender lead, but they surged ahead with three consecutive tries, all converted, to secure their 36-14 triumph.
Teagan Berry put in a phenomenal display for the Dragons at fullback, amassing 247 run metres, executing four line breaks, breaking through 11 tackles, and contributing both a try assist and a try of her own.
Next Saturday, the Raiders will host the Sharks, while the Dragons will face the Roosters in Kogarah on the same day.
