Motorsport Australia is delighted to announce the appointment of Alan Vaughan as the new Rally Manager.
In his role as Rally Manager, Vaughan will also continue to serve as the sporting delegate for the Australian Rally Championship. He will spearhead a team focused on the strategic planning and development of the rally discipline, alongside supporting the ongoing management of the rally category under Motorsport Australia’s guidance.
This appointment signifies Motorsport Australia’s dedication to fostering the continuous growth of rallying, enhancing pathways for entry into the sport.
“Establishing clear development pathways for the sport is crucial for its ongoing health. This will enable us to boost participation across all levels, particularly among grassroots and junior competitors,” Vaughan commented.
A long-time member of the MINI Car Club of NSW and a two-time club champion, Vaughan has motorsport coursing through his veins.
“I became involved in motorsport at the age of eight, watching my mother, Joan Vaughan, compete in rallies,” he shared.
“It was truly a privilege to see my Mum in action.”
“Having experienced much within the sport, I recognise the importance of looking ahead. We must create pathways to nurture new talent.”
While Vaughan acknowledges the unmatched thrill of racing on closed roads, he emphasises that the people involved are what truly enrich the sport.
“When I wasn’t actively participating, it was the motorsport community that I missed the most,” Vaughan reflected.
“The cars serve as a means to unite a group of like-minded enthusiasts,” he added.
Ultimately, Vaughan aims to simplify the process for individuals wishing to engage in and contribute to the sport.
Awarded Motorsport Australia Official of the Year in 2006 and honoured as a Motorsport Australia Life Member in 2016, Vaughan has served as State Council Chair for many years and has been a State Executive member for over 25 years.
