A standout player from the Gold Coast Titans has captured the attention of Queensland legend Darren Lockyer, as the competition intensifies for a spot in the State of Origin.
With both representative squads grappling with selection issues, the extent of changes before game one on May 28 remains uncertain.
However, Beau Fermor seems poised to secure his debut for Queensland after Lockyer, a member of the selection panel, mentioned him during a segment on Wide World of Sports’ QLDER this week.
Several aspirants are eager to make the Maroons squad, with only two matches left to impress coach Billy Slater and the selectors.
Lockyer and Gene Miles are also part of the selection team that will ultimately determine their futures.

Lockyer acknowledged that the panel aims to strengthen their options in the back row.
“I believe enhancing our depth on the edges, particularly among the backrowers, is essential,” Lockyer stated on Wide World of Sports’ QLDER.
“Last year, we faced numerous injuries and struggled with numbers in the middle of the field.
“I expect Lindsay Collins to return shortly, and Tino (Fa’asuamaleaui) is back as well. Fingers crossed everyone remains injury-free.
“While the middle seems to have improved depth, the edges still have players, like Beau Fermor, who are competing for spots.”

“In Origin, having the right attitude and effort is paramount,” Lockyer added.
“If you possess those qualities, Billy will take note and your chances of selection increase significantly.”
Fermor has expressed his desire to enter the Origin arena with the Maroons, having previously been in the extended squad in 2022.
For now, however, he remains focused on his commitments to the Titans.
This season, Fermor has been selected for the starting left edge position by coach Des Hasler over David Fifita.
It’s rumoured that Fifita’s relationship with Hasler soured after he sought to displace Fermor from the left edge but was denied.
Fermor has participated in every match for the Titans this year, scoring five tries and maintaining a 92.8 per cent tackle efficiency while averaging 116 run metres per game.
