Brisbane Roar midfielder Momo Hayashi will miss the start of the 2025-26 Ninja A-League season following a red card in her team’s final match of the current season.
Hayashi was dismissed after making contact with referee Izzy Cooper during the second half of Brisbane’s Round 23 defeat to Melbourne Victory at AAMI Park.
On Monday, Football Australia’s independent Match Review Panel (MRP) assessed the situation; the MRP, which includes Chair Simon Micallef, along with Alan Davidson and Rhali Dobson, determined that Hayashi was guilty of “unsporting conduct towards a match official.” This infraction carries a minimum penalty of four matches (a mandatory one-match ban plus three extra games).

However, the MRP has forwarded the case to the Disciplinary Ethics Committee after classifying the incident as a Category 2 offence.
The Disciplinary and Ethics Committee will decide if the evidence is enough to impose an additional sanction beyond the one-match mandatory suspension, which will be upheld regardless of the hearing’s outcome.
The date for the Disciplinary and Ethics Committee hearing has yet to be announced.
In other news, Newcastle Jets forward Sheridan Gallagher has received a Show Cause Notice following a gesture made while leaving the pitch at AAMI Park after receiving a second yellow card in her team’s loss to Melbourne City on April 11.
The Show Cause Notice is due to alleged violations of Football Australia’s National Code of Conduct and Ethics. Gallagher must respond to the notice by 5pm AEST on Wednesday, April 30.
