Juventus defender Federico Gatti has sustained a fracture in his calf during Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Genoa, as confirmed by the club in an official statement.
According to reports from Italian media, Gatti may be sidelined for around a month after he was forced to leave the pitch in the first half due to an accidental collision with Genoa striker Andrea Pinamonti, who missed the ball and inadvertently struck Gatti’s leg.
“Medical examinations have confirmed a compound fracture of the diaphysis of the fibula,” Juventus announced on Monday.
Pinamonti took to social media to express his apologies for the unfortunate incident.
“I’m truly sorry for your injury, and I wish you a swift recovery so that you can return to the pitch as soon as possible,” he posted on Instagram.
Gatti, 26, emphasised his commitment to making a rapid comeback as fifth-placed Juventus fight for a top-four finish to secure Champions League qualification.
“I will do my utmost to stay as close as possible to my teammates during this crucial part of the season,” Gatti shared in an Instagram story.
Juventus, currently just one point adrift of fourth-placed Bologna, are set to face Roma on Sunday.
