Manchester City has firmly denied claims that striker Erling Haaland struck the club’s mascot, Moonbeam, on the back of the head, leading to injuries that required hospital treatment, according to reports from British media.
The alleged incident took place prior to the home Premier League fixture against Southampton in October.
The individual portraying the mascot stated in interviews that she was left in shock after taking a photograph dressed as Moonbeam when the Norwegian international playfully tapped her on the head.
She subsequently lodged an assault complaint with the police and raised her concerns with the Premier League champions, as per the reports.
“The club conducted a thorough investigation and found that none of the evidence, including video footage, supported the claim that an injury occurred as described,” a spokesperson for City was quoted saying.
“We are also aware that a complaint was filed with Greater Manchester Police, and they chose not to take any further action.”
