Jamal Musiala, the German international midfielder from Bayern Munich, is reportedly unhappy with Mika Biereth’s decision to represent Denmark.
Biereth, who was born in London in 2003 to a Danish-German father and a Bosnian mother, was eligible to play for a range of countries including Bosnia, Germany, and England, in addition to Denmark.
Musiala, who made a significant impact as one of the standout players for “Die Mannschaft” during last summer’s EURO, had hoped to convince Biereth to select Germany for his international career.
“I’ve spoken to him, and he expressed that he’d have preferred me to choose Germany. However, in my heart, I’ve always wanted to represent Denmark, and I’m thrilled to be here. I hope to make my mark and become a regular in the national team,” Biereth stated in an interview with TV 2 Sport.
“Our families are quite close, so he understands my German roots. He converses in German with my father, and while he’s not entirely pleased with my choice, I am content and excited about the opportunity ahead.”
Musiala faced a similar dilemma earlier in his career; after featuring for England across various youth national teams up to the Under-21 level, he ultimately opted to represent Germany.
Biereth, who has already netted 11 goals for AS Monaco this season, including three hat-tricks, is poised to make his debut for Denmark in the upcoming Nations League quarter-finals against Portugal on 20th and 23rd March.
