Belgium has summoned Ameen Al-Dakhil and Michy Batshuayi as replacements for their Nations League playoff against Ukraine, as coach Rudi Garcia braces for potential withdrawals due to injuries, the Belgian football association announced on Tuesday.
22-year-old centre-back Al Dakhil has earned six caps, including his recent appearance in Belgium’s match against Israel last November. Meanwhile, 32-year-old striker Batshuayi, a seasoned veteran with a decade of experience in the national team, makes his return after nearly a year out of the selection.
The squad alterations come in light of injuries to forward Malick Fofana, who netted a goal for Olympique Lyonnais in Ligue 1 last weekend, and full-back Arthur Theate, who was unavailable for Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga on Sunday. Both players may miss out on the first leg against Ukraine, scheduled for Thursday in Murcia, Spain.
Belgium will then host the second leg in Genk on Sunday.
