The Parramatta Eels’ management has announced that they will no longer permit player options to be included in contracts, as concerns mount regarding the future of Dylan Brown and Mitchell Moses.
Brown has until the 10th round to make a choice about whether to leave for another club or extend his stay with the Eels until the end of 2031, due to a player option embedded in his deal. He also possesses a similar option set for two years from now.
Meanwhile, Moses holds a player option for the 2027 season, although his current contract runs until the close of 2028. The halfback has to make a decision by October 31 regarding his future beyond 2026.

Parramatta officials have faced criticism due to the contractual issues; however, during a forum for Eels members, a commitment was made to address this matter.
Chief executive officer Jim Sarantinos noted to The Sydney Morning Herald that the club is “collaborating with their managers” in hopes of reaching a resolution “as quickly as possible”.
New chairman Matthew Beach, who has taken over from Sean McElduff, labelled this a “critical issue”.
“There are three additional points I would like to make regarding player options,” he stated.
“Firstly, we haven’t entered into any contracts with player options in approximately two years; the last such contract was inked in May 2023.”
“Secondly, since then we’ve signed or retained between 22 to 24 players without including player options in their contracts.”
“Lastly, we will not be permitting player options in future contracts.”
