What’s next for Marin Jakolis following an impressive season with the Macarthur Bulls? His prospects in the Isuzu UTE A-League were a hot topic on this week’s edition of Total A-Leagues.
Despite Macarthur missing out on the Finals Series, Jakolis has shone in the 2024-25 season, and attention is now focused on the future of the 28-year-old as his contract approaches its end.
The Bulls winger is leading the league with 12 assists heading into the final round of matches, alongside contributing nine goals, helping his side claim the 2024 Australia Cup.

“Jakolis has amassed 12 assists this season, making it the highest number in a single season since Leroy George’s remarkable 14 assists for Melbourne Victory back in 2017-18,” commented Vince Rugari, host of Total A-Leagues and reporter for the Sydney Morning Herald.
“It’s also noteworthy that he’s out of contract, which is intriguing. I believe the Bulls will want to retain him.”
Tommy Oar, a former A-Leagues star and retired Socceroo, added, “Perhaps he’s looking to go back overseas. It’s anyone’s guess.”
“He may have gone somewhat under the radar this season, especially as the Bulls have struggled and slipped down the table after losing several key players.”

Rugari also noted, “Another factor behind his low profile this season is the revelation that he wasn’t eligible for the Socceroos. He was genuinely excited early in the season, and I suspect his form dipped shortly after that news broke.”
As Jakolis approaches free agency, he could attract interest from other A-Leagues clubs, including the Western Sydney Wanderers, as suggested by Oar.
The Wanderers may be seeking attacking reinforcements with star Nicolas Milanovic reportedly set to join Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership.

FINAL ROUND STAKES: One match could determine a $1.27m prize, sixth position AND the Golden Boot.

“We’ve witnessed Jakolis returning to form, and during last weekend’s match against Melbourne Victory, he came close to scoring. He was just unlucky not to add to his tally.”
“Several A-League clubs will undoubtedly have their eyes on him, particularly the Wanderers if Milanovic makes his exit.”
