Corban Piper has extended his contract with Wellington Phoenix, committing to the Isuzu UTE A-League club for an additional two seasons.
Having made a strong impact in his debut professional season, the 22-year-old has agreed to stay with the Phoenix as he enters his second year after joining on a scholarship deal for the 2024-25 season.
Piper quickly earned the affectionate title of “cult hero” for his adaptability, performing in five different roles including full-back, centre-back, central midfielder, winger, and striker.
Throughout his inaugural campaign, Piper netted three goals across 21 appearances, with only Phoenix legend Kosta Barbarouses (10) having scored more goals this season.

“The Phoenix provided me with my first experience of professional football, and I’ve loved every minute of it,” Piper stated.
“I was given the opportunity to play due to the team’s injuries this season, and I think I made the most of it.
“I’ve developed a great rapport with the lads and I’m excited for the next two years ahead.”
“In the coming seasons, I plan to enhance my technical abilities and hopefully evolve into the refined player that Chiefy envisions for me.”
KOSTA’S FUTURE? Chiefy ready for a discussion with Wellington Phoenix legend
Phoenix manager Giancarlo ‘Chiefy’ Italiano, who is gearing up for next season after missing the finals, remarked, “Corbs has an exceptional mindset, which has certainly won over the fans.
“He gives 110% every day, both in training and during matches, and if I had a squad full of players like Corbs, we wouldn’t be losing many games.”
“The exciting thing is his potential for improvement is vast, and I can’t wait to witness his development here at the Phoenix.”
