Rabbitohs coach Wayne Bennett has thoughtfully declined to comment on Josh Schuster’s well-being following the announcement that he is taking an indefinite leave of absence.
Schuster joined the Rabbitohs in the off-season after negotiating a settlement to exit Manly ahead of the 2024 season.
Both the Rabbitohs and Schuster’s management have confirmed to News Corp that the 24-year-old is on a break to address personal matters.
In the wake of South Sydney’s defeat against Melbourne, Bennett was asked about the situation.

“I prefer not to discuss Josh. It’s a personal matter,” he stated.
“The world doesn’t need to know about Josh Schuster, alright?
“Just rest assured that he is safe and being supported by many people.”

So far this season, Schuster has participated in five matches for the Rabbitohs in the NSW Cup.
His last appearance was in round 11 against the Western Suburbs Magpies on May 18.
Schuster made his debut for the Rabbitohs in round six versus the North Sydney Bears.
Prior to that match, he described the experience as “incredibly emotional.”
