Bronte Trew and Ena Harada both netted their first-ever goals in the Ninja A-League as Western Sydney Wanderers triumphed over Newcastle Jets with a convincing 4-1 victory.
The evening kicked off with CommBank Matildas star Tash Prior giving the Jets an early lead. However, a determined Western Sydney side fought back on a night to remember for both Trew and Harada, ultimately sealing the win with contributions from captain Amy Harrison and substitute Holly Caspers at Wanderers Football Park.
Trew’s exceptional solo effort brought the score level, followed by Harada’s powerful strike that put the Wanderers in front. This win marks two consecutive victories for the Wanderers and stretches their unbeaten streak against the Jets to five matches, a run that dates back to 2022.
After 16 rounds, the Wanderers sit in ninth position on the ladder, while the struggling Jets – who were Semi-Finalists last season – find themselves without a victory in their last ten matches, languishing in 11th place. They could potentially end the weekend in last position, depending on Sydney FC’s performance.
Newcastle started strongly, with Matildas’ Prior scoring for the first time in 411 days, capitalising on a rebound after teammates Cassidy Davies struck the post.

The Jets nearly doubled their lead just before the half-hour mark, but an unmarked Libby Copus-Brown failed to convert her header, sending it over the crossbar.
The Wanderers then completed their comeback five minutes before half-time, with Harada scoring a brilliant goal, marking her as the latest first-time scorer in the A-Leagues.
Newcastle came close to equalising just before the break, with Emma Dundas’ long-range effort being tipped onto the crossbar by Wanderers goalkeeper Sham Khamis.
Again thwarted by the woodwork, Dundas and the Jets hit the crossbar in the 57th minute from close range.
Matters worsened for Newcastle 16 minutes from time when Copus-Brown conceded a penalty, allowing Wanderers skipper Harrison to confidently convert the spot-kick.
Substitute Caspers then added to the scoreline late in the game, rounding off a disheartening night for the travelling Jets.
