Western Sydney Wanderers have secured the signing of central defender Joshua Laws on a contract that runs until the conclusion of the 2024-25 Isuzu UTE A-League season.
The 26-year-old centre back arrives from Swiss club Grasshoppers, enhancing the A-League experience of a Wanderers defence that is currently seeking greater depth.
“I’ve spent the last few years playing overseas, and I knew that upon my return, I would want to represent a passionate club like the Wanderers,” Laws stated after finalising his short-term contract.
“Having grown up in Sydney, I’m looking forward to the opportunity to have family and friends in the stands supporting me as well.”
“The Wanderers have always been a formidable team, and I’ve felt the energy of their supporters propelling the squad forward.”
“It’s clear how much this club means to its members and fans, so I’m thrilled to play for them now.”
“I’m eager to dive straight into training and playing, assist the club in climbing up the ladder, and achieve success this season.”
With seasoned South Korean defender Jeong Tae-wook sidelined due to an ankle injury, the Wanderers could benefit from the additional experience pinned on a relatively young defensive lineup.
“It’s fantastic to welcome an experienced defender who possesses both solid A-League and European insight as we head into the crucial stages of the season, vying for a finals position.”
Starting his career within the academy of English Championship team Blackburn Rovers, Laws also had a stint with German club Dusseldorf before joining New Zealand’s Wellington Phoenix.
