Starting from 2026, it is anticipated that away supporters will once again be permitted to attend the “New Firm” Copenhagen football derbies featuring FC Copenhagen and Brøndby IF, according to a statement from the Danish Superliga organisers.
Since the two clubs last faced off in October 2024, away fans have been prohibited from attending matches indefinitely.
“With the forthcoming measures and the legislative changes expected to take effect from 1 January, we plan to reintroduce fans from both clubs at all matches in 2026, unless circumstances change,” stated Claus Thomsen, director of “Divisionsforeningen.”
Among the initiatives being implemented is the use of facial recognition technology. “Divisionsforeningen” has sought approval from the Norwegian Data Protection Authority for its implementation.
Additionally, several legislative changes are forthcoming from the Ministry of Justice, which will empower police to issue immediate suspensions and require clubs to share video surveillance with one another.
“We are advocating for stricter laws aimed at addressing the small group of troublemakers who tarnish the experience for the majority,” commented Claus Thomsen.
“These individuals must be listed in the national register, and clubs should have effective ways to keep track of them to ensure they are barred from the stadium.”
