Melbourne Victory’s captain, Kayla Morrison, has extended her contract for another two years, which will keep her at the club until the conclusion of the 2026-27 Ninja A-League season.
The American-born defender joined the Victory prior to the 2020-21 season and took over as the captain for the subsequent campaign. After becoming an Australian citizen in 2022, Morrison has settled in beautifully in Melbourne and is “thrilled” to continue her journey with Victory for an additional two years.
“It’s an absolute honour to keep being part of this remarkable club,” Morrison remarked.
“I take great pride in all we’ve achieved together and am deeply appreciative of the support, opportunities, and trust the club has bestowed upon me.”
Since making her debut in January 2021, Morrison has appeared in 77 league matches for Victory. The centre-back celebrated winning the Ninja A-League Championship in her inaugural season, but following a rupture of her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in the first round of the 2021-22 season, she was sidelined as her team clinched back-to-back titles.
John Didulica, Melbourne Victory’s director of football, emphasised Morrison’s comeback from her ACL injury as one of the many inspiring moments during her tenure as captain.
“Kayla is a pivotal figure in our entire club, and we are privileged to have her with us for another two years,” Didulica stated.
“Her dedication and the sacrifices she made to return from her ACL injury—playing every minute of the following season—have inspired everyone at Melbourne Victory.
“Her leadership by example is exceptional. She sets the bar not only for our Ninja A-League team but for the entire club, exemplifying what it takes to be elite and possess a winning mentality.
“I have no doubt that she stands among the premier players in the A-League Women’s competition, and securing her with a long-term deal illustrates our commitment to developing an A-League Women’s team that can compete for trophies year after year.”
Morrison and her Victory squad will be back in action this weekend as they face off against Adelaide in a double-header at AAMI Park.
