Usman Khawaja is preparing for a conciliatory meeting with Joe Dawes, the head of elite cricket in Queensland, following a heated dispute ahead of the Sheffield Shield final.
On Monday, Queensland Cricket’s CEO, Terry Svenson, disclosed the meeting plans to the media after the team’s setback against South Australia.
Dawes sparked controversy by asserting that Khawaja was free of “hamstring issues” after the Australian opener missed the final round match.
He also expressed his disappointment, claiming Khawaja had the chance to participate but opted to travel to Melbourne for the Australian Grand Prix instead.
Khawaja responded during a press conference, labelling the allegations as “categorically untrue” and “100 per cent incorrect.” He clarified that both Cricket Australia’s and Queensland Cricket’s medical teams were aware of his hamstring concern.

The 38-year-old also mentioned that he isn’t expecting an apology from Dawes.
Svenson expressed dissatisfaction with how events unfolded.
“The comments made to the media were certainly unfortunate,” Svenson told reporters.
“I would have preferred they remained private. I intend to meet with them soon to address any disagreements they may have.”
“Usman’s been an outstanding contributor for us in Queensland for many years, and I expect to see him don the maroon this season.”
“Every relationship faces its hurdles, and we certainly aren’t an exception. Both are strong-minded individuals with a passion for Queensland cricket. If that passion is channelled in the right direction, we will emerge stronger next year.”
