Amad Diallo of Manchester United has shared insights about his experience under former manager Erik ten Hag and expressed his ambition to become one of the best players in the world.
Since Ten Hag joined the club in the summer of 2022, he has entrusted Diallo with 12 appearances last season, showcasing his belief in the young forward.
Diallo seized his opportunities well, most notably scoring the dramatic winner in the 120th minute of the FA Cup quarter-final against Liverpool.
During the current 2024/25 season, Amad has cultivated a cult following among United fans and is a preferred choice for manager Ruben Amorim when fit.
In an interview with Manchester Evening News, the soon-to-be 23-year-old reflected on his time under Ten Hag, emphasising the importance of consistent game time for him to show his true potential.
“I need the game time to demonstrate I can play for this club. There were moments when I felt a bit frustrated, as it’s understandable to feel you deserve to play but are left out.
“That can lead to frustration. However, I now feel that the manager has faith in me and my capabilities.
“I’m focused on repaying that trust every time I step onto the pitch.
“To be honest, Erik was a significant help for me. Even when I wasn’t in the squad, he’d offer plenty of advice, encouraging me to train hard consistently.
“That kind of support from a manager, urging you to give your all in training even if you’re not playing, is vital. So, I committed to training very hard.
“At the start of this season, I had substantial playing time with him, and I’m grateful for the opportunities he provided me. I wish him nothing but the best moving forward.”
After sitting out two Europa League finals from the sidelines, the Ivorian international is eager to avoid a third missed final as United prepares to clash with Tottenham on Wednesday night.
The young winger displayed considerable assurance when discussing his aspirations, a statement that is sure to resonate with United supporters who are well aware of his significant talent.
“I have faith in my potential. I believe I can become one of the best in the world. I just have to put my best foot forward in every match—that’s the key. I genuinely believe in my potential.”
