On Thursday, UEFA launched an investigation into four Real Madrid players, including Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior, concerning alleged “indecent conduct” that occurred during their Champions League Round of 16 victory over Atletico Madrid.
The two forward superstars, along with defender Antonio Rudiger and midfielder Dani Ceballos, are facing the possibility of sanctions ahead of their quarter-final first leg match against Arsenal on April 8th.
“A UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector has been designated to look into allegations of indecent conduct by players from Real Madrid CF,” stated the governing body of European football.
Reports from Spanish media indicated that UEFA is examining the celebrations of the Real Madrid players following their victory.
Neither UEFA nor Real Madrid have responded immediately to an AFP inquiry regarding the matter.
The record 15-time champions and reigning titleholders, Madrid, triumphed over their rivals via penalties at Atletico’s Metropolitano stadium on March 12th, after the match ended in a 2-2 aggregate draw.
The evening concluded in controversy when Atletico forward Julian Alvarez had a penalty controversially ruled out during the shootout for allegedly touching the ball twice.
