Forward Mathys Tel has officially joined Tottenham Hotspur on a permanent basis after a four-month loan from Bayern Munich, as confirmed by both clubs on Sunday.
The France Under-21 international has inked a contract with Tottenham valid until 2031, with reports indicating that the transfer fee is approximately £30 million (AUD 41 million).
“Mathys Tel arrived at FC Bayern as a very young talent and has effectively taken his initial steps in top-tier European football with us,” said Bayern’s head of sport, Max Eberl, in a statement.
“He was well-liked among the squad and consistently gave his all for the club and his teammates. Moving to Tottenham has proven to be a beneficial step for his development.”
At just 20 years of age, Tel joined Bayern from Stade Rennes in 2022 on a four-year deal. He extended his contract to 2029 in March last year, accumulating 16 goals in 83 appearances for the German side, though he faced challenges in securing a regular spot in the starting eleven.
He moved to Tottenham on loan in February, making 20 appearances, and played a key role in helping the North London club claim their first major trophy in 17 years with a 1-0 triumph over Manchester United in the Europa League final.
Tel marks the first signing under new coach Thomas Frank, who took charge on Thursday following the dismissal of Ange Postecoglou.
