Spencer Leniu, the prop for the Roosters, has reportedly found himself embroiled in yet another sideline altercation, this time with a journalist following the team’s Anzac Day victory.
Just a fortnight ago, Leniu engaged in a heated exchange with league legend Johnathan Thurston, and now he has allegedly had a verbal confrontation with reporter Brent Read on Friday afternoon.
Details surrounding the incident remain murky, but reports indicate that Leniu directed offensive language at Read.
In an interview with 2GB’s Continuous Call Team on Saturday, head coach Trent Robinson was questioned about the matter and stated that he was not aware of it.

“Truthfully, this is the first I’ve heard of it,” he remarked.
“I can’t really provide any comments, as I was unaware. I need to gather more details.”

Following the Thurston confrontation, Leniu faced no penalties, even as some critics called for a fine or suspension, while this latest incident has received minimal attention.
When asked if a discussion between Leniu and the club was necessary, Robinson committed to “supporting the player” as much as possible.
“It’s a bit of a balancing act currently—opinions are running high in our sport, which has sparked interest,” the three-time premiership-winning coach noted.
“As a result, there will be differing viewpoints. When critics attack individuals on either side, it becomes public, yet Spencer is expected to keep it private? That’s a curious point; I don’t have all the answers for that. No one seems to have settled that discussion.”
“I am aware that constant conflict is not ideal, but it does generate media interest. I will consistently back the player while also supporting the integrity of the game.”
Leniu had a significant spell on the sidelines last year due to suspension following a racial incident involving Broncos star Ezra Mam in the opening match of the 2024 season in Las Vegas.
This incident sparked strong criticism from figures like Thurston, whom Leniu apparently didn’t take kindly to, given recent events.
In the recent clash, Leniu started as prop for the Roosters in their decisive 48-16 victory over the Dragons.
