Talei Holmes, a backrower for the Sharks, is gearing up for the upcoming NRLW season, which kicks off this Thursday night, and she has a myriad of decisions on the horizon.
A pivotal player in the Cronulla squad set to face the Eels in the season opener, Holmes has already donned the Fijian jersey at Test level but aspires for even more representative opportunities.
“It was a privilege to represent Fiji and to be named captain last year, especially as my grandmother is Fijian,” Holmes shared with Wide World of Sports.
“However, my mother hails from New Zealand, and I’d certainly be keen to play for the Kiwis down the line.”
“I also qualify for New South Wales and would love to play in the State of Origin if I can prove my worth. It’ll be interesting to see how it all unfolds.”

At just 25 years of age, Holmes kicked off her NRLW career in 2020 with the Dragons, enjoying three successful seasons there before heading up the coast to join the Sharks, where she is now embarking on her third season.
“I genuinely love the sport and the friendships I’ve forged through it,” the disability support worker expressed.

“We made it to the grand final last season, and while it was disappointing to lose to the Roosters after coming so close, the excitement of the new season is palpable for women’s rugby league.”
